Call to all minions!

evil-overlord.jpgIt’s been while since I made a Crunch Overlord post (I can already hear Yan groan). But as I did last time I’ll actually add some usefull RPG table psychology stuff. Its also a community thing, I hope you won’t be too offended if I call you minions… :)

Also just so were all on the same page, the minion list is actually a community page where you can feature as a reader and advertise your blog/webcomic/website! If you don’t feel like taking the test, join as a Generic Minion!

Ahhh I’m finally getting settled in my new headquarters and I must say I like it. I will change the colors once again this weekend because my good Gadget Minion Ve4grm debugged the Holographic theme-generator I had originally planned for this here fortress of all things Crunch.

What’s this I hear you say? You’d like to join my organization and contribute to my evil plan? Perfect… but first I must know what kind of Minion you would make so I can attribute you to the most useful position. You have to take a test! Ohh it’s a simple one really, just 72 yes/no answers.

Have a look here.

RPG Relevant Aside: This personality test is very interesting and gives results rather similar to those given by professional tests some of us have had in school or at work. I strongly believe that a serious RPG group should have all members take it and share the results, especially with the DM. The various interpretations available on the website will help the DM understand his player’s outlook more. This could be a great Norming experience.)

You have your 4 letter code result? Excellent! Cross-Reference that code with the following list to see what kind of minion you would be (I’m open to suggestions for renaming them).

The Guardians

  • ISTJ: Enforcer Minion
  • ESTJ: Sergent Minion
  • ISFJ: Soldier Minion
  • ESFJ: Support Minion

The Idealists

  • INFP: Medic Minion
  • ENFP: Crusader Minion
  • INFJ: Advisor Minion
  • ENFJ: Trainer Minion

The Artisans

  • ISFP: Perceptive Minion
  • ESFP: Messenger Minion
  • ISTP: Mechanic Minion
  • ESTP: Recruiter Minion

The Realists

  • INTP: Engineer Minion
  • ENTP: Gadget Minion
  • INTJ: Mastermind Minion
  • ENTJ: Field marshal minion

Don’t want or can’t take the test? I understand, and I do need more minions… so you can join as a Generic Minion if you prefer.

Now knowing that I can’t fight the evils of fluffiness without understanding it, I have therefore created 3 minion categories, choose one:

  • Crunch Minion
  • Fluff Minion
  • Special Minion (Equal Fluff and Crunch)

Finally report your results in the following format in the comments:

(Commenter’s Nickname) , (4 letter code: Minion type), (Minion category)

Fell free to link to your website/facebook/blog/favorite website. For extra minion points, link to an image that best represents the type of minion you want to be (PG-13 or less please). For those not HTML savvy, just copy-paste the links and I’ll handle it.

Here’s an example based on Chatty’s results:

  • Chatty DM, ENFJ/ENTJ (I’m sitting between both) Trainer/Field marshal Overlord, Crunch

You shall be transfered on the Minion’s page shortly and shall be eligible to be on my weekly ‘Do not kill this minion list’ whenever you make a good comment, help me out with the forteress or inform me of cool crunchy (and fluffy… sigh) things on the interweb. Who knows, you might be upgraded from Minion to Imperial Guard.

For those already in the Imperial Roster, please let me know if you want to be transfered to another category.

Together, I shall rule the world of RPGs!!!!! Mwa HA HA HA!

I think I fall into the understanding fluff catagory. As I am very much a rules light GM. Being willing to just wing stuff.
As to how helpful I’ll be in the minioning (is that a word?) I dont know. I have a hard enough time writing content for my blog. (http://roninsfortress.blogspot.com/)
But I’ll try my best. :-)

Normally, I tend to use just enough fluff to cover the crunch so that it is comfy for the rest of the people around the table. While I rules lawyer an awful lot, I don’t think the rules should get in the way of the story.

    So lead on.

Hey, guys. Dug through some documentation and code, and discovered that the img tag isn’t allowed in comments by default, which is why it was stripped out.

You can always link to images, though. (The a tag is enabled, as well as just posting the link like you did.)

As far as enabling the img tag goes, I’d recommend against it. It could cause trouble for low-bandwidth visitors, and allows for random idiots posting inappropriate material, as well as spam. Keeping the img tag disabled allows for greater control over content on the site, and is fairly standard practice on both blogs and forums.

At least, that was my recommendation to our ChattyDM. His decision won’t be made until he wakes up. :P

By the way, I did some template cleanup, and passed Phil a new plugin for this here site.

Now when you leave a comment, you have a 15-minute grace period during which you can edit it!

    Woo!

Just click on the text of your message to edit the comment, or click on your name to edit the name and website that you left.

    And for completeness:

ve4grm (aka Graham), ENTP Gadget Minion (edging into ENTJ and ENFP at times), Imperial Guard: Crunch

Zozeer: INTJ: Mastermind Minion, Special (also not good at both at the same time, there has to be some trick to it…)

I love fluff to death, just as I love crunch. though I tend to play by feel in game.

Then you’ll have double agent Minion working for both overlord.

Which is fine as long as you have the same goal.

But just to be sure you’ll need a minion Police force that will monitor all your minion activities; Verifying that they are working for YOUR best interest.

    It’s not easy being an overlord… :p

Yeah, the Masterminds have it. In the write-ups about the various types, they stated that only about 1% of the population is INTJ. Seems we blow the bell-curve on this one.

However, I think that the connection between GMing (and to a lesser extent, playing)and the Mastermind personality is an easy and intuitive one to find. We can see big picture and detail level as the task demands, and we have the ability to take charge if need be. But there’s still the edge of being there to make things work, not necessarily be in charge. So that all works, I think.

Dean: I’m just impressed that a personality that only 1% of the population shares is so overwhelmingly represented in RPGs…. Definitively worth looking into.

Or I’m just a magnet for INTJs as most of my friends are exactly of that type…. where I’m borderline ENTJ and ENFJ.

Yan: I do have police Minions…. I have the Imperial Guard and all those Enforcer Minions!

I heard that some personality types are more prone to answer online questionaires than others, and so they’re overrepresented in self-selected samples: “Question 5: What is the distribution of temperaments in the US population? Doesn’t the distribution of the web statistics contradict that distribution? The estimated distribution of temperaments of US general population are 40-45% Guardian, 35-40% Artisan, 5-10% Idealist, 5-10% Rational. The web statistics derived mostly from data collected when the Sorter was totally free on the web, are global statistics not restricted to the US, are however to some degree self-selecting. This self-selection bias is not surprising because Idealists and Guardians generally are more interested seeking out and taking the questionnaires. The Artisans are typically not as interested in temperament theory, as the rest of the temperaments are. The Idealists are the most enthusiastic of the temperaments about temperament theory. On the other hand, the web statistics have been stable for years, and the millions taking online currently on Advisorteam indicate the same distribution.” Keirsey Temperament Frequently Asked Questions
